Mini vintage vice restoration
Hi folks, welcome to man cave makings,
I put up a story on Instagram a week or so back with how I managed to get a hold of this little vintage vice on Facebook Marketplace and how I was going to do a light restoration and if a short little RUclips video would be of interest. A resounding yes was the answer so here it is folks my stripped down and lightly restored vice.
Using simple techniques and tools I was able to turn this rather sorry looking vice into a stunning bit of functional equipment for my workshop. I’m mainly going to use it for my welding table as a third hand so I have not gone to the ends of the world to redress the faces on the mill or anything that in-depth. I wanted to k...

DIY Electromagnetic welding table upgrade

Hi folks welcome to Man Cave Makings with me Gus, In this video I’ll take you through how I turned a door mag lock into this welding table insert pad so I can get a magnetised third had holdy down thingy in my welding bench, all at the flick of a switch! The idea for this came from a live stream I did on Instagram where I did a hour build challenge live. It was an awesome experience but there w...
Vintage vice pedestal build

Hi folks, welcome to Man Cave Makings with me Gus. In this episode I take you through the steps of how I made a pedestal for my vintage(ish) vice. The reason for being hesitant over the vintage status of the vice will be explained in the video but needless to say I’m super happy with how this project turned out in the end. This was never going to be a restoration video for the vice as it’s all ...
Making a Plywood Bluetooth Speaker

    G'day from Australia, Gus. I came across your channel while looking for some design ideas for my own 'electromagnetic holdy downy thing' to hold small parts that need to be cleaned, after they've come off my plasma cutting table. Having to clamp and reclamp them during the cleaning process is a PITA, especially when I have lots of pieces to clean. I have bought 4 of those door maglock units rated at 180kg each, and a power supply, so thanks for the design ideas for my build. Love the excitement and energy you create in our videos, too. I've subbed so I can check out more of your man cave makings.

      Fit like as we say up in the north east of Scotland my man! Thanks for the kind words and the awesome message and good luck with the build. The same reason I built mine was for small thin metal parts and finding them so hard to hold this is an absolute brilliant thing to have in the table. I’m having a wee break from making as I’m travelling just now but hope to do more in the future, also do a fair bit on Instagram. Take care my friend and thanks again for watching and sending a message, very much appreciated 🤜🏻🤛🏻👍🏻🙌🏻

    I enjoyed this .. responding years after you made it but hey .. I'm only just getting going. There's a lot of good reinforced stuff here, so things I was dubious about confirmed - particularly in terms of prep. I'm in the probably fortunate position of starting TIG without significant financial limitations and a desire to develop skill, so I'm probably seen as a cheat by ignoring all of the early lessons and starting the game with premium HF start dual pulse TIG machine and pyrex cups on the latest greatest torches ;) ... BUT the simplicity of your points on the preparation, practice and run geometry for a weld were valuable to any equipment configuration IMO. thanks

Nice to be in a position to choose what equipment you start from, believe me you skipped the pain process and may never know the hardship 😂😂 but there is nothing more compelling in welding than just burning plate! Seat time is king, and I’m so rusty in my welding process again as I’ve not been hands on it’s like starting fro the beginning! 😂 Good luck on your learning journey and I’m so glad to have helped in a small way! • @ManCaveMakings
      @ManCaveMakings 2 года назад

      Hi Brendan, I don’t have a huge amount of experience with different machines unfortunately as the ones I used commercially are all high end machines such as Miller, Lincoln, Kemppi and I will admit that I should have saved a little more to get the AC/DC Rtech unit as I only have DC tig. It will also vary depending where you are in the world and availability but I have heard of the Parweld units getting good reviews but again I think they are comparable to the Rtech equivalent. Good luck in your search. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
